Character history:

Ariana Osgood had a seemingly perfect life: perfect boyfriend, prestigious spot in Billings House, straight A grades. So why has she spent the last 2 years at the Brenda T. Trumbell Correctional Facility for Women?

Ariana is a Billings girl, a member of the most prestigious girls dorms in Easton Academy. Women in Billings go on to do great and powerful things. Her life was perfect, perfectly controlled, everything as it should be.

The story should start during Ariana's junior year.

During her junior year, Ariana went out with Daniel Ryan. He was perfect, or so he seemed. Finding out that he was a territorial, lying, manwhoring jackass, Ariana chose Thomas Pearson, Easton's resident drug dealing playboy, instead. They are trapped at school during christmas break, snowed in during a snow storm. Not having reported that they would be on campus, this is an offense which would result in immediate expulsion. Ariana and Thomas find out that Ariana's resident stalker, Sergei Tretyakov, has been taking pictures of her. Pictures of her in school during christmas break, breaking and entering school property, cheating on her boyfriend. Ariana finds him, just as she breaks into his room to gather the evidence she needs, and he flees. Ariana snaps, she can't let him get away, risk loosing everything she has, her perfect life spiraling out of control. She chases him onto a snowy, ice covered lake, which gives way. Sergei grabs hold of Ariana but not wanting to risk being pulled down into the water herself, as well as letting the pictures and knowledge Sergei has get out, she very deliberately let go of Sergei's hand. And held him under the water until he stopped moving. And then she lied about it, calmly, as if she was lying about something simple like forgetting to buy oranges.

Ariana then finds out that it wasn't Sergei who was responsible for stalking her, it was Mellisa Johnston, Thomas' ex-girlfriend. Mel, only wanting Thomas for herself, threatens to go to the police. Ariana stalks her, follows her to her home, and waits for her to be distracted, listening to music with headphones on. She sneaks up behind her, removes the headphones. And bashes her head open with a table lamp.

The plan had been simple. In order to not arouse suspicion to their activities over Christmas Break, Thomas and Ariana had agreed to lay low and go through the motions of their everyday lives for the rest of the year—intending to go out the next year. But Thomas' reputation is not one that Ariana should have ignored, and he fell for the new girl: Reed Brennan. To Ariana, this was completely unacceptable. Thomas was hers, and she devised a plan to make Reed pay—by becoming one of her good, trusted friends.

Ariana will go to any lengths to see her plan succeeds. She even another student and one of her fellow Billings House sisters, Leanne Shore, expelled for plagiarism, planting evidence of cheating. This was all to have Reed get a place in the prestigious Billings dorm, where she could slowly start to make her pay, while becoming her best friend and neighbor.

After Ariana saw Reed wasn't willing to give up on Thomas, despite the boy being an alcoholic, a drug dealer and publicly humiliating her, her friends came up with a plan to teach Thomas a lesson. They caught, blindfolded and tied up Thomas while he was very drunk. They kidnapped him from his room, and drove him to a farm in a remote part of town. There they tied him to a tree, stripped him, mocked and beat him. After dropping off her friends, Ariana looped back to Thomas, intending to save him, untie him and show him how much SHE loved him. He would have to be forever grateful that she saved him. She expected him to grovel at her feet and tell her how much of an angel she really was for coming back and saving her. Instead he he was enraged, screaming at her what she took as verbal abuse, mocking her, shouting how insane she was, just like her mother. He continued until she completely snapped, unable to take it anymore. She needed him to stop. All she wanted was quiet and her fingers wrapped around a baseball bat and hit him. That only cause him to scream and shout louder. Needing quiet more than ever, Ariana continued to beat him, not knowing if the screams were hers or his, only stopping after the bat collided with his head one final time and the noise stopped. Finally there was heavenly silence.

Ariana's final plan was to kill Reed, making it look like a suicide by throwing her off the roof of their dorm. She had it all planned out, making sure Reed had to use the roof to make a cell phone call, and cornered her. She even called the police saying that her friend had jumped off the roof, drawing a knife at Reed, faking her suicide note which confessed to killing Thomas Pearson. Unfortunately, Ariana's best friend, Noelle, came onto the roof and caught them, leaving the police enough time to witness everything and arrest Ariana for murder for the murder of Thomas Pearson and the attempted murder of Reed Brennon. Ariana confessed to the murder of Thomas Pearson by blaming Reed for making her, driving her to it. She plead insanity and was convicted in the kidnapping and murder of Thomas Pearson, with a sentence of 20 years to life in prison.

Ariana is a psychopath. Having been in prison for 2 years, the prison psychologist has stated that he does not believe she will ever change and will never sign off on her chart that she is fit for release as long as he is alive. While in the prison(rumored to be maximum security) she has daily sessions with the psychologist.

If left to her own devices, Ariana would have faked her own death and escaped from the prison. The Warden takes her before she is able to escape, imprisoning her not only for the crimes she committed, but the crimes she would commit after her escape--as well as for escaping prison and undermining the criminal justice system itself. Below is a brief summary of her would be escape plan.

Ariana planned her escape very carefully,taking two years of careful watching, planning for every possible glitch--she had every detail down, every step she needed to take, every contingency. Taking the time to fake her own depression, she attempted suicide, stealing and swallowing just enough Ativan to bring her to the hospital and put her on suicide watch, but not enough to do her any harm. She carefully planted a new suicide note when she was released from suicide watch 48 hours later, on July 4th--a date carefully planned. Using the fireworks and chaos from the once a year festivities the Warden allowed, she escaped--having lured the psychologist's dog with roast beef from her lunch for two years into digging her a hole well under the electric fence guarding the prison. Planting evidence of her apparent suicide by drowning in a lake nearby the prison, Ariana escaped, all the while managing to to also bring the psychologist under investigation. He got what he deserved, in her opinion.


Miscellaneous history:

Ariana is from the south, her parents owning nearly half of it, being in the oil business. She got out of the school physical ed requirement for 'health' reasons. Ariana was a poet and usually wrote half of the school's literary publication as well as having her poetry accepted to publications such as the New Yorker. Her writing tends to be dark. However the prison psychologist got ahold of her journals in prison and made her read her poems during session, trying to get her to analyze herself. It was one of the most humiliating and degrading experiences of her life and she hasn't written a word since.

Ariana's family is not a happy one. She has a father who was never there and a mother who has been in and out of mental institutions since she was a little girl, hospitalized for severe depression. On the last day before Christmas break, when Ariana was nine her mother tried to commit suicide, Ariana being the one who found her curled up on the bathroom floor and called 911.

Character personality:

Ariana is a book worm, she comes off as rather quiet, with a far off stare that makes a person feel like they're being studied, or don't exist at all. Ariana puts up a prim and proper, almost prudish, front, playing the ever present mother figure. She is meticulous, to the point of almost being considered OCD. She knows exactly how many steps there are in Billings House and how many feet should be in between each one. She memorizes details of her surroundings so she wont forget them. she enjoys watching others habits and behaviors, knowing from their behavior what they're going to do before they do it. It makes her feel more in control.

She spent her life living for her mother, doing what her mother expected, what her mother wanted her to do, to get perfect grades, live a perfect life with a perfect boyfriend in a perfect school, so sure that if she lets her mother down, she'll have another psychotic break. She convinced herself that she had to be perfect so her mother would live through her, and never thought of what she wanted. It never even occurred to her that she might have her own opinion on what her life should be like. She's the type of girl that has to wonder if she's actually feeling happy, because she just doesn't know what it feels like. That's not to say she's been depressed and sad all her life, merely that as a diagnosed psychopath, she lacks the ability to feel more than shallow human emotions. She can mimic them well, however. Ariana has control issues, she has to be in control of every situation and if she is not, she is pressed to murder, to force everything to be in her control again.

Ariana, being a psychopath, blames everyone but herself for her prison sentence and her failures. She is convinced that one single mistake—such as a mistake which caused her to kill another classmate, is not reason enough to ruin her entire life and send her in prison. Instead of seeing everything in black and white, she sees her actions in shades of grey, as if, if she just said she was sorry, it would all go back to the way it should be. Even though she committed murder, each time she blames someone else for her actions, that they made her do it, that it was their fault. Even her escape plan, and the crimes she commits after her escape--Ariana is convinced they are all for the greater good, that killing someone who she believes deserves to be killed is her own atonement. It was the right thing to do, and she had to do it.

After Ariana killed Seregei she didn't feel anything at all. She waited for the guilt to come. But it didn't. Instead, she just felt peace. Ariana is convinced that she is better than most people. She takes in their clothes, the way they speak, their appearance. However, she's not stupid. She behaves quite well when guards with steel-toed boots arrive to escort her to and from her cell.

She thinks she can know all about a person by what kind of shoes they wear. She's quite good at poking at someones survival instinct, if something happens that she doesn't want, and playing it with school girl innocence. Ariana felt that Thomas was the only real thing she ever owned. And he ruined all her intricate plans: going to Princeton, become a literary genius, she had her wedding, husband, children and entire life all planned out. Prison was not included. Ariana's prim and proper facade isn't just a facade. That is who she convinces herself she is. That if she just could control her surroundings again, by doing whatever is necessary, she could go back to that person, slip into that life again.

Ariana has nightmares. She hasn't slept through the night in nearly 2 years(or shown emotion in that period of time either), after he made her kill him. Wasn't that punishment enough? Ariana has the habit of digging her fingernails into her upper arm when stressed.

Patient has been under my care for over a year now, with no hope of rehabilitation. Behind a facade of polite, Southern belle-charm is the heart of a cold-blooded killer. She displays all the classic signs of sociopathy: murderous tendencies, lack of remorse, and overall lack of conscience. She is also a pathological liar. Her condition is not treatable, and she is at risk for committing further crimes. If released, she will kill again.

Ariana Osgood is a very dangerous girl. She should remain at Brenda T. Trumbull for life.

Physical description:

Ariana is described as having white-blond hair that's almost ethereal, and blue eyes. She has a stare that has been known to unmake people, almost as if she was staring right through your soul, or even through you entirely. While at school, Ariana usually had her nose in a book. She has the briefest hint of a southern accent. Blue is her signature color. Ariana wears an antique gold fleur-de-lis which her mother gave her. She cut her hair short during the trial and in prison, not wanting long hair after she could see Thomas' blood in it. Ariana has the habit of twirling her index finger around a lock of hair.
